Ross Castle
Killarney, Co. Kerry, early 1900's
Edition: Open
In 1172, a wooden tower was built overlooking the River Nore by the Anglo-Norman conqueror, Richard de Clare, known as Strongbow. Twenty years later, his son-in-law, William Marshall erected a stone castle with four towers, three of which are part of Kilkenny castle. The castle was bought by the Butler family in 1391, whose decendants lived there until 1935.
